Assessing Your Readiness for Strategic Planning
Fusion Productions is completing a research project for the ASAE Foundation that included a prototype course taught by GinCommGroup's Ginger Nichols, CAE. Fusion asked Ginger to participate, based on her knowledge of strategic planning and her experience in teaching association executives.
As part of the course, Ginger developed a six-question organizational
assessment; check it out to see if your association is ready for strategic planning.
Streamlining Strategic Planning
One approach to improving strategic planning for associations has been suggested by Ginger Nichols, CAE, and Michelle McKenna, CAE, executive director of the Consulting Engineers Council of Oregon.
In "Cut to the Chase: A Streamlined Approach to Strategic Planning," they suggest what a successful strategic plan is and outline a process for making planning work.
Why Use a Facilitator for Strategic Planning?
Why use a facilitator and how do you pick one? That was one of the questions received by Ask the Consultant is a new feature of Association World 99.
Ask the Consultant gives attendees a chance to ask specific questions related to assocation management to the experts at GinCommGroup. Questions and answers will be incorporated into a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) session on the Web site.
"What Do You Mean by Goal?"
Are you or volunteer leaders ever confused by strategic planning jargon (mission, vision, etc.)? Ginger offers some definitions that may be useful to you in planning within your association.
Critical Tenets of Association Planning
Strategic planning for non-profit membership organizations should be:
- Member-centered
- Results-oriented
- Information-based
- Inclusive
Each of these tenets is discussed in more detail in the "GinCommGroup Planning Philosophy."
