GinCommGroup Founder Ginger Nichols, CAE

Ginger Nichols, the founder and principal consultant of GinCommGroup, has seen the association from all sides - as an association manager, an association board member and now as a consultant to associations. From this experience, she has an intimate understanding of how an association provides value to members.

Association Executive

Ginger began her association management career in 1974 with the American Society for Medical Technology, then took a break from the association world for positions in health care communications and public affairs.

In 1982, she moved to Washington, DC, and accepted the post of Director of Communications and Membership for the National Council of Community Mental Health Centers

After six successful years, Ginger accepted the challenge of establishing the first Membership / Marketing Department at the National Business Forms Association (now the Document Management Industries Association). The membership development program she implemented at NBFA resulted in record-setting recruitment.

GinCommGroup

After moving from Washington, DC, to San Francisco in 1991, Ginger founded GinCommGroup to provide consulting and training in membership, marketing, communications and strategic planning tailored for trade associations and professional societies.

Her clients represent a diverse cross section of members - professional, trade, philanthropic - and vary from international to local associations, across the country.

Involvement with ASAE

Nationally recognized for her expertise in association management, she is a frequent speaker and instructor for the American Society of Association Executives and other allied societies. She teaches the membership recruitment component in ASAE's School of Association Management and serves as Dean of the Membership Program at the School. In 1997 she developed a new seminar, Membership Recruitment and Retention for the Small Association, for the ASAE Express series.

An active ASAE member since 1982, Ginger is past chair of the Membership Section Council and a former ASAE Director. In addition to her six years on the Membership Section Council, she has served on numerous ASAE committees and task forces.

In 1995, ASAE recognized Ginger's contributions to the profession by naming her an Associate Member Fellow, the highest honor ASAE bestows on its supplier members.

Other Professional Activities

Ginger served on the Board of Directors of her local allied society, the Northern California Society of Assocation Executives and currently serves as chair of its Publications Committee. She is also a member of the California Society of Association Executives, American Association of Medical Society Executives and National Speakers Association.

Certified Association Executive and Texan

Ginger earned her Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation in 1990 and was recertified in 1993. A Dallas, Texas, native, she holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Houston and a master's degree from George Mason University in Virginia.

Community Service

Ginger is actively involved in community service in her adopted hometown of San Francisco. She is Past President of the Board of Directors of Oakes Children's Center, a therapeutic educational program for seriously emotionally disturbed children. She is President of the Board of Trustees of Strybing Arboretum Society, San Francisco's Botanical Gardens at Golden Gate Park.
